“The best way to predict the future is to invent it.”
Those powerful and famous words from tech and education pioneer Alan Kay were felt in full effect throughout Northeast Ohio on Wednesday, June 7 at a virtual “graduation” event marking the successful conclusion of Spring 2023 for both the Tech Internship Program and the Tech Side Hustle. The event also served as a celebration of entrepreneurship and innovation in practice. Two of our technology-focused, signature programs, the Tech Internship Program and the Tech Side Hustle provide ways for students to lend their technology skills to a growing venture or get support to launch their own startup, respectively. During the virtual event, students from both programs presented on their work over the past 6-12 months, and more importantly, on how they will apply what they learned from their experiences to exciting future endeavors. IntroductionNicole Babik, a middle childhood education major from Baldwin Wallace University, never imagined creating stationery would become anything more significant than an amusing pastime. With the encouragement of her family and friends, however, she was able to grow and expand her creative hobby into a thriving business.
Notably Yours Greeting Cards was formed in 2015 when Babik was only 16 years old. Since their launch, they have expanded to not only greeting cards, but stickers, wedding invitations, personalized stationery, and much more. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasing in popularity, but how can it be used by student entrepreneurs? With AI’s potential of dramatically altering different parts of entrepreneurship, including social media, customer service, e-commerce, and more, it’s important that students learn how to be innovative, resilient, and continuously upskilling.
At a recent EEC Learning Lunch event, Joseph Fox, an assistant professor at the University of Akron, asked the question, “how do you use AI on a day-to-day basis?” Parth Agrawal, Venture for America fellow and founding product manager at FindOurView, and Tyler Kohrt, Venture for America fellow and project manager at Wave Strategy, joined Dr. Fox to answer that question and offer ways for founders, students, and faculty to successfully use various AI tools. |
