Donchris Nuwe, a Cleveland State University alumnus, began his higher education journey with a bachelor in economics but didn’t have a passion for the career field. Shortly after graduating, Donchris pivoted into the technology industry. Despite having spent four years of his life working towards a degree in economics, Donchris realized that he wanted to fulfill his dream of creating some form of technology for nightlife businesses. At the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey, Donchris didn’t know how to create a technological product and questioned whether or not he should give up his economics career for his venture idea. Donchris worked to gain knowledge and skills with information systems so that he felt more confident building apps for nightlife businesses. After practicing these skills, Donchris created his app, CatchApp. About CatchApp CatchApp helps nightlife businesses connect with their target audience before they go to that club or venue. It allows these businesses to livestream music and get people excited to experience the atmosphere in person. CatchApp provides three different types of revenue models including a:
Building relationships with other businesses is an essential part to CatchApp’s success. As Donchris mentions, “Partnerships are everything for my business. If we don’t have partnerships, if you don’t have that very well established network, you can literally do nothing.” Since Donchris’s app is new to nightlife businesses, they tend to be more skeptical about using the platform. Because of this, Donchris had to provide special offers when first starting CatchApp. He offered venues a spot on the homepage with no subscription fees that way he had something to show to other businesses. Donchris’s Advice to Future Entrepreneurs Donchris recommends that every entrepreneur does their best to excel in the industry they work in, and to put in the extra effort of obtaining new customers. “knock on every other door because it’s not going to be easy. The best I’ve been able to do is being able to keep knocking on those. At least I know if I knock on a hundred doors, five of them will open.” Donchris also advises future entrepreneurs to not overthink the process. By overthinking, you’re setting yourself up for failure. If you have an idea for a new product or service to bring to the market, start taking those next steps as soon as you can.
